Calm Before the Storm

The time has finally arrived. The big move home happened, and the last three weeks have been a slurry of boxes, trailers, and trips up and down steps. However, even through the thralls of that, the ideas are still flowing, and the time to execute them is upon us. As mentioned in the previous blog, Jules Place is catering our first event in the upcoming days, and sitting on boxes of home goods coming up with the menu has been the perfect combination of freedom and stress that led to a wonderfully delicious outcome.

Also if you noticed as you opened the page, we are doing a Thanksgiving order of Povitica. Those of you who know the delicacy understand the significance it has in the area. Like the Pasty and the Finnish Pannukakku, the Povitica is a cultural food brought overseas during the mass immigrations in the mining era (Immigration that was, and is the cornerstone of the American Dream).

The bread consists of a chocolaty walnut spread, wrapped up in a flakey dough and baked until golden brown, and until a few decades ago it was a staple of the mothers and grandmothers of the region. If the idea is peaking your interest, send us an email at injulesplace@gmail.com and maybe we can supply one for your holiday festivities.

With our freedom (for a little while) we’ve been enjoying the sights and food of the area, along with catching up with friends and family. We had the time to catch one of the cold season farmers markets and got our minds thinking forward to next season. The Upper Peninsula is truly a place like no other and we’ve missed it. Even with the weather being colder we like to think its the areas way of saying welcome home.

On the topic of being home, we now have access to everything we need to make your holidays, birthdays, work events, date nights, whatever event you could think of, as delicious and memorable as possible. We have access to a commissary kitchen in which the production will take place in, and were currently in the process of establishing our relationships with distributors. All in all, we are excited to be back, excited to get involved with the community, and excited to serve the wonderful people of the upper peninsula.
