Cate Westcott
Growing up in a family business operated by my parents fostered an enjoyment of the community that hospitality can bring. With this spring forward I left to pursue a culinary degree and pastry certificate from GLCI in Traverse City, Michigan. While studying I gained a love for farm to table concepts, quality pastries, and cakes from the businesses I worked in.
Now that I’ve finished school I want to bring my skills and knowledge back home to the Keweenaw to foster the love of food and hopefully teach our community in the process.
Alex Mahrley
Also from a small-business owning family, I was taught the importance of a work ethic at a young age. Starting from when I was probably too young, I worked in restaurants in the Copper County. Eventually I worked my way up the chain and knew this is what I wanted to do.
I followed Cate down to Traverse City, to support her collegiate efforts, as well as experience and learn from the growing food scene in the area. With that in mind, one can only stay away from the Keweenaw for so long…
Jules Place
In starting Jules Place we want to bring high quality, farm to table goods to foster a quality product with a Keweenaw twist. We also believe culinary knowledge is one of the stepping stones in connecting with the world around us, whether that be local historical eating or trying new foreign cuisine. Contact us or stop by one of our listed farmers market locations (Coming soon!) to see our take on your favorite dish or find a new favorite!
Behind The Name
Jules was picked up in late summer of 2021 and was a player in many long baking or study nights during our time living in Traverse City, the name was originally a project placeholder and once we came to the choice we thought it just fit. For now, Jules lives a lavish life of sleeping in all day and watching native birds whether in Traverse or the Keweenaw.
